Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities.  For many groups of staff working in the Trust, CPD makes an important contribution to patient safety and is a requirement for their continued professional registration.

Examples of types of CPD may include:

  • E-learning activity
  • Courses and lectures
  • Training days
  • Peer Reviews
  • Clinical Audit
  • Reading journals
  • Attending conferences

Professional bodies often require evidence from their members of their CPD activity.  If staff are selected by their professional bodies for an audit, they will be required to provide evidence to show that they have met their CPD requirements.
